As uterine fibroids get more attention and awareness, more information about their management and treatment is available. However, there still aren’t a lot of reliable books that are specifically about fibroids. So how can you find the best wellness books that apply to your situation?
During my journey, I’ve found some good books about health, stress management, and hormonal health. Many of these books have helped me evolve how I approach wellness and fibroid management.
So in this post, I’m sharing what I think are some of the best wellness books for women experiencing fibroids and other hormonal health issues. Some of which I’ve read and others on my reading list.
My favorite books on wellness and hormonal health:
1. The Period Repair Manual by Laura Briden
I’m listing this one first because I think it’s a great basic overview of your cycle and having better periods. If you’re brand new in your health journey, this book gives you the basics to get started.
2. Woman Code by Alisa Vitti
I couldn’t make a list without recommending this staple book. Consider this book the ultimate guide to learning about your cycle and adapting a cyclical approach to your lifestyle. Also, be sure to invest in a physical copy of this one. You’ll need to refer to it frequently at first.
3. The Dental Diet by Steven Lin
This one may seem like an odd recommendation. But this book taught me much about how to eat an anti-inflammatory diet and improve gut health. While the book is intended to help people reclaim their dental health naturally, it really helps you understand more about the body in general. This is another one I recommend getting a physical copy of because it has some good recipes.
4. Atomic Habits by James Clear
I’m literally halfway through this book as I’m typing this post. While this book might not traditionally be considered a health book, I find it very relevant. Clear breaks down the psychology of habits and teaches you how to build better ones for your desired goals. This book really comes in handy if you’re struggling to cultivate better wellness habits.
5. Set Boundaries, Find Peace: A Guide to Reclaiming Yourself by Nedra Glover Tawwab
This is one of the few books I listened to on Audible. And personally, I enjoyed listening to this book in Tawwab’s voice. After speaking to so many women with fibroids, I find that we tend to be overachievers or have issues with setting boundaries with others and ourselves. This type of behavior leads to stress and negative emotions, which feed fibroids and their symptoms. So, this book is a good starting point if you recognize these behaviors in yourself.
Now that you have a list of the ones I’ve already read and can confidently recommend, here are a few that I haven’t gotten to yet. These are books that I’ve heard other people I respect mention several times. So, I look forward to digging into these.
6. The Body Keeps Score by Bessel van der Kolk
This one’s at the top of my must-read list. It gives an in-depth look at how trauma affects the body and how we can recover. So many people say this book is completely life-changing, so I’m super excited to read it.
7. Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art by James Nestor
Breathwork is an integral part of stress management and overall health. So, it’s no surprise that I’d want to dig deeper into this topic and explore more ways to use the breath to feel better and have more balanced hormones.
8. Move the Body Heal the Mind by Jennifer Heisz
Movement is a big part of my plan for healing for fibroids. So, I want to learn more about how movement impacts not only the body as well as the mind. I even have a whole post about making exercise a habit that sticks, so I’m always looking for ways to move.
9. Sleep Smarter: 21 Essential Strategies to Sleep Your Way to A Better Body, Better Health, and Bigger Success by Shawn Stevenson
Sleep is such an underutilized tool when it comes to wellness. And I certainly could use some help in optimizing this area. Stevenson’s book includes a 14-day plan to get better sleep.
10. The Fifth Vital Sign by Lisa Hendrickson-Jack
Add this one to the list of hormone health manuals. This one walks you through the fertility awareness method and how to increase your fertility in order to conceive.
There are tons of books on health out there. But this list sums up the ones that I and others have found to be the most useful. They contain in-depth information and actionable items that will truly improve your quality of life.
