Clean Make Up Finds for Valentine’s Day
This Valentine’s Day is going to look a bit different for most of us, but I still think that it’s worth the effort to get a little dolled up even if you’re staying in.
Personally, I’m clinging to every excuse to be festive. Sometimes just getting dressed and putting on makeup is my way of breaking up the monotony of being at home a lot more.
Applying a little makeup every day has become somewhat of an anchor that gives me a boost and makes things feel a little more normal. With that being said, I’ve recently begun to pay attention to some of the more harmful ingredients in some of my beloved makeup products.
Over the last couple of months, I’ve been really intentional about transitioning to clean skincare and make-up products. Though it requires some effort to research skincare and make-up products that are safer and not laden with toxic chemicals, it’s totally worth the peace of mind of knowing that my beauty products aren’t contributing to hormonal imbalance. Right now being well is a priority for me so it’s worth the time investment. After all, being well is sexy!
Base:
This year I’m going to stick with simplicity for my Valentine’s Day makeup look. Since I’ll be home, a lightweight foundation will do the trick. I’ve used Bare Minerals for years so it’s always a go-to. Kosas recently sent me their tinted face oil and concealer to try and they are both AMAZING! I should also mention that Kosas has great range for us brown girls.
Eyes and Lips:
Since I don’t have to wear a mask at home, I’ll be going for a bold lip over an eye shadow. The Lip Bar’s matte lip colors are my latest obsession. Their formula is vegan and super long-wearing. Just make sure you have some good makeup wipes on hand to remove later in the night.
DIY mani/pedis have become the norm for me. At first, I gave up nail salon visits because of COVID closures. After realizing how many chemicals a trip to the nail salon can expose you to, I’ve decided to suspend my trips to nail salons indefinitely. Fortunately, there are some non-toxic nail polishes out there that look great and perform well.
One of the easiest ways to find out how your makeup measures up against clean beauty standards is to check out EWG’s SkinDeep search tool. My clean Valentine’s Day makeup picks got a rating of 4 or less. The lower the score, the cleaner or safer the beauty product.
